4-H members from all over the state, ranging in age from 8 to 18 are welcome to compete. All breeds, including mixed, can compete after they have met the minimum requirements. Dog and 4-H member teams can compete in several different classes, such as: obedience, rally, conformation, showmanship, drill team or costume. This contest is open to all 4-H members ages 8 – 18. You do not have to be entered into the Texas Dog Show to enter your photo. Categories include Dog-Still Life, Dog-Active and Dog Storyboard. Cost is $3 per photo. Registration will be done on 4-H Connect, please pay by credit card. Deadline is May 9th. These workshops are open to 4-H members of all ages. The Veterinary Science workshops are a learning series to help youth meet their required learning lessons in the veterinary science project. Some lessons will be in a classroom, but several lessons will be hands on. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 10th, 6:30 p.m. at the Helotes Activity Center. Project Show is a fun event where youth get to show off their skills in photography, drawing, painting, crafts, wood working, metal working and much more. Project Show is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th at the Helotes Activity Center from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Guidelines and entry form will be available soon.
Wildlife Conservation Camp will be July 17th – 23rd at the Davis Mountains Preserve near Ft. Davis, Texas. This camp is for youth in grades 9 – 12. Cost is $350 which includes lodging, meals and materials. Deadline to sign up is May 15th. For more information visit the camp website at http://www.wildlifecamptx.org/. We are asking for video testimonials from our 4-H youth that may be featured at a National 4-H Meeting. The testimonials should include members thoughts about4-H and how it has impacted them. The Bexar County Dog Squad is a competitive 4-H dog club that focuses on learning all aspects of dog care and training with the emphasis on competing at the State Dog Show in July. All 4-H members with any type of dog are welcome to join. Classes will be held every Monday through July. It is a qualifying and invitational event for Senior 4-H youth (grades 9 – 12) who placed in a district level roundup or signed up to compete in one of the invitational events. The Discover Science Method Research Poster contest will allow youth to apply the scientific method to subject matter of interest or that they have learned through 4-H projects. The scientific method is a process for formulating and testing hypotheses through experimentation and research. Scientists use the scientific method to explore relationships in nature. The poster contest gives youth an opportunity to display and demonstrate how they applied the scientific method to research, experiment, and formulate results for their project. The District Horse Show is scheduled for June 14 - 15, 2016 at the Uvalde County Fairplex - 215 Veterans Ln., Uvalde, Tx. Registration will be available from May 2nd - May 20th on 4-H Connect.
