July 17 2010 Timely Tips

GARDENING CALENDAR

BEXAR COUNTY  BY DAVID RODRIGUEZ

Keep birdbaths full and clean. Clean water is in short supply and is essential to birds.

Butterflies are attracted to overripe fruit, blooms, and mud. Make a muddy spot in your landscape for them to enjoy or place overripe fruit in a container.

Hummingbirds will reward you with their antics if you keep plenty of sugar water in feeders for them. Clean and change the water in the feeders on weekly basis.

Take a critical look at your landscape and note plants that need replacing, overgrown plants that need to be removed and possible activity areas that can be enjoyed by your family. This will give you a head start on planning fall projects.
