David Rodriguez, County Extension Agent-Horticulture, will conduct a FREE program on Fall Planting & Soil Preparation on August 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the William R. Sinkin Eco Centro (1802 N. Main Avenue)
A program on Urban Feral Hogs will be held Thursday, August 31, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Bexar County Extension Office. Cost is $15.00. This program will provide 3 CEUs for Licensed Private Applicators. Please RSVP by Friday, August 25. See the flyer for details.
If you are planning to exhibit chickens (broilers) at the 2017 Bexar County Junior Livestock Show in December 2017, order your broilers on the form here. Broilers are $1.80 each. Minimum order of 25 chicks or maximum order of 50 chicks per exhibitor. Deadline to order is Friday, September 1st. There is a drop slot in the front door of S-212 to help you meet this deadline.

If you reside in a county outside Bexar County and want to join Bexar County 4-H, you must abide by the article of information below. But, if you attend a Bexar County school, you can disregard this notice. A youth is required to participate in the county 4-H Program of his/her residence. If, for some circumstance, a youth needs to participate in an adjacent county, the family must submit a “Membership Transfer Form” here to the County Extension Office where they reside or attend school for consideration. Fall is approaching, so it is time to start planning your Bexar County Show Rabbit Meat Pen projects. The rabbit show date is Friday December 29, 2017. Show rules state that meat pens are not to be over 70 days old, with a gestation period of 30 days. That means bunnies should be born on October 20, 2017, and does bred on September 20, 2017. If you will be exhibiting a market pig at the 2017 Bexar County Junior Livestock Show or any 2018 major show (San Antonio, Houston, etc.) you must purchase a swine validation tag. A South Region Landowner Series will be conducted this fall with sessions held in Bexar, Kerr, Atascosa, and Medina counties. Pesticide CEUs will be offered.
