Atascosa County will host a series of livestock project workshops.  The workshops are designed for youth interested in learning how to manage their livestock project animals as they learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, marketing, reproduction, health and agribusiness careers. The workshops will delve past the basics and exciting topics and speakers are scheduled. Cost is $10 to cover the cost of a lunchtime meal. Parents may drop off members as early as 7:30 am. Calf Scramble

During each rodeo performance at the stock show, you see  a bunch of kids in the arena trying to catch a calf; this is called “Calf Scramble”.  If you are 12 years old (by August 31, 2017) and will not be past your junior year in high school, you are eligible to participate in the calf scramble.  If selected to scramble, you will attend a rodeo performance and attempt to catch a wild calf.  If you catch a calf, you will receive a certificate to purchase an animal... If you will be exhibiting at the State Fair of Texas Show in Dallas, Sept. 29th – Oct. 22nd, 2017, entries are due to our office by Friday, August 18th.   If you are exhibiting animals, please complete the entry form, certification, release and indemnity agreement and the W-9 IRS forms available here.  Make your check payable to “Bexar 4-H Fund”. Chickens (Broiler) – Bexar County Show Order – DUE

If you are planning to exhibit chickens (broilers) at the 2017 Bexar County Junior Livestock Show in December 2017, order your broilers on the form here.  Broilers are $1.80 each.  Minimum order of 25 chicks or maximum order of 50 chicks per exhibitor.  Deadline to order is Friday, September 1st.  There is a drop slot in the front door of S-212 to help you meet this deadline.

Cross County 4-H Member Enrollment Rule Effective for 2017 – 2018 4-H year

If you reside in  a county outside Bexar County and want to join Bexar County 4-H, you must abide by the article of information below.  But, if you attend a Bexar County school, you can disregard this notice. A youth is required to participate in the county 4-H Program of his/her residence. Rabbit Projects – Order Now

Fall is approaching, so it is time to start planning your Bexar County Show Rabbit Meat Pen projects.  The rabbit show date is Friday December 29, 2017.  Show rules state that meat pens are not to be over 70 days old, with a gestation period of 30 days.  That means bunnies should be born on October 20, 2017, and does bred on September 20, 2017.  Many sellers will not breed their does until they receive an order and many need time to schedule ahead of the breeding date, so...
