Celebrate Family!

Join the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the Family Alliance Council to celebrate National Family Day, Sept. 26, 2011. Family Day is a day to celebrate family by enjoying a family meal.

Research shows that children who are engaged with their parents are less likely to be involved in drugs and gangs, less likely to have teen pregnancies, and have higher vocabularies and test scores. Eating meals as a family is one of the simplest ways to be engaged in your children’s lives.

A great nutritional benefit is that children who eat with their family eat more fruit and vegetables and tend have less weight problems.

Family Day was first launched in 2001 by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA*) at Columbia University as a national initiative to “remind parents that what your kids really want at the dinner table is YOU!”

How can you get involved? Your business or agency can encourage your employees to take time to eat a meal with their family. Avoid scheduling events and activities that evening so your group is free to spend time with their family.

Contact us and we will be glad to send you packets of information to use at your site with your employees!
