The beef project teaches the fundamentals of the beef cattle industry by allowing youth to explore the areas of animal husbandry, livestock selection, health, and care, in addition to the showing of beef cattle at local, county, state, and national cattle shows. You are responsible for the purchase and primary care of your animal. This is a year-round commitment that starts in the early summer for steers and either early summer or early fall for heifers. Market steers are validated for County and Major Stock shows during the month of June, and Heifers are validated during the month June or October (You only have to validate a heifer once as long as it does not change owners).
