- Rejuvenate heat stressed geraniums and begonias by lightly pruning, fertilizing and watering. If not, consider replacing them with colorful fall mums.
- Add generous amounts of enriched organic compost to all beds, shrubs and trees. As well as a two inch top layer of an organic living mulch. This will build the soil, cut back on weeds and help insulate for the winter.
- Cut way back on the lawn irrigation this month to avoid brown patch. If you already have brown patch in the lawn, treat it with a fungicide such as Turficide.
- Fertilize young tomatoes and peppers when they have fruit about the size of your thumb. Use about 1 cup of slow-release fertilizer for every 10 feet of row.
- Kick off the fall season with beautiful color. Consider, planting the San Antonio Hardy Perennial Fall Aster. This plant will give you gorgeous purple-bluish flowers with a lovely yellow center.
