March 5 2011 Timely Tips

GARDENING CALENDAR

TEXAS AGRILIFE EXTENSION SERVICE

BEXAR COUNTY BY DAVID RODRIGUEZ

Wait to prune or remove dead debris from citrus until they start to bud and leave out.

The removal of palm or cycad fronds should begin with warmer weather and the first emergence of new fronds from their center.

Most all perennials which are dormant or possibly dead in appearance should be hedged to the ground or slightly below visible greenwood.

When pruning or training any tree, it should have a reason; such as dead wood removal, shaping for uniformity or simply safety concerns. A tree should never be topped or lion tailed.
