- Aerate the lawn. Then top dress with one inch of compost.
- Fertilize blooming plants such as pansies, dianthus and flowering kale to keep the blooms coming.
- Use slug bait to control snails and slugs on bedding plants.
- Apply dormant oil to fruit trees and pecans when too dry, and/or several days with temperatures of 45 degrees F or above are forecast. Dormant oil will control scale and overwintering insects.
- Prepare beds and individual holes for rose planting in February. Use composted manure, pine bark, and similar materials mixed with existing soil.
