GARDENING CALENDAR
LYNN RAWE, COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT – HORTICULTURE
TEXAS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION
April 2, 2005
- Tune up the lawnmower and be sure the blade is very sharp. Dull blades tear the grass, sharp ones cut it.
- Spring flowering shrubs bloom on last season’s growth, and should be pruned after they bloom. This also applies to spring-blooming, climbing roses.
- Prepare to fertilize the lawn once the grass is actively growing and can take up the nutrients. On the front of the bag look for the nutrient ratio of 19-5-9 which will include some iron.
- Soil temperatures need to warm up to 70 degrees F. before spreading Bermuda grass seed. Plan this task for the end of April.
