4-H Livestock

Quality Counts:

Quality Counts verification will be required for all 4-H members exhibiting livestock (market and/or breeding) at all major livestock shows. The verification process will require all 4-H & FFA exhibitors to pass an online test that measures their knowledge on quality assurance and character education content items. 4-H members will need to have completed and passed the test before the major livestock show’s entry deadline (first of November). There is no limit to the number of times you can take the test, as long as you achieve 80%. Please visit this website to complete the verification process: http://qualitycounts.tamu.edu.  On this website, click on Verification across the top, scroll down, click on “Take the test and become Verified” then click on 4-H. If you have any questions, please contact Cheree’ or Bryan.

Calf Scramble:

If you are 12 years old (before August 31, 2012) and will not be past your junior year in high school, you are eligible to participate in the calf scramble.  If selected to scramble, you will attend a rodeo performance and attempt to catch a wild calf.  If you catch a calf, you will receive a certificate to purchase an animal (each show is different in what type of animal can be purchased) you then are required to exhibit it at the show the following year. REMINDER: You are not eligible to scramble at a show where you have previously caught a calf.  You must be enrolled in 4-H for the 2012-2013 year (enrollment is on 4-H Connect beginning early September each year) you must also be academically eligible at the time of scramble.  If you are interested in participating  in any of the major show (San Antonio, Houston, San Angelo, Star of Texas) calf scrambles, complete the calf scramble form and return it to our office by TBA.
