Horticulture grade dormant oil will help eradicate over-wintering insects, such as scale on shrubs like hollies, fruit trees, and pecan trees. Always read, understand, and follow label instructions as they pertain to temperature and rainfall.

Short-day onion transplant selections are available at area nurseries. Plant them three inches apart and harvest every other plant for green onions. Large bulbs will be ready to harvest throughout late May and early June.

Wear old clothes when cleaning up frozen and damaged banana stalks. Oozing sap will stain and discolor everything.

Construct cold frames for starting vegetable and flowering transplants for spring.
