Bexar County 4-H Fashion Show and Events – DUE

March 2, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The clothing and textiles project allows youth the opportunity to make a style of their own, be creative in sewing and designing, use basic sewing skills, develop good consumer skills when making and purchasing clothes, and serve the community by using skills learned in this project. Members who participate in the Clothing and Textiles project can compete in the following contests and events during the 4-H year:

Fashion Show: Members get to show off an outfit they have either purchased or constructed in one of the following categories: Every Day Living, ReFashion, Semi-Formal/Formal, or Theater/Costume. Members will model what they have made or purchased during the Fashion Show at the end of the contest.

Fashion Storyboard: The Fashion Storyboard is an industry-inspired method of displaying original designs. The best storyboards create vivid visual images that “tell the story” of the designer’s idea. The storyboard includes original illustrations and flats, as well as additional inspiration materials.

Duds to Dazzle: Teams of 4-H members create a brand new garment from a recycled clothing item provided to all teams. From that recycled clothing item, team members must create a new garment that fits into a pre-selected category they are assigned before the contest. Afterward the team must present their creation to a panel judges.

Textile Show: Participants may enter the Textile Show by constructing any item from fabric or textile material (ex: crochet, needlework). Entries may be garments that are not entered in the Fashion Show. Items may be constructed as an accessory to a garment, and can be from a pattern, kit, or original design.

Trashion Show:  The 4-H Trashion Show provides an opportunity for 4-H members to use their design skills to create and exhibit a recycled/reused garment created from items that would otherwise be thrown in the trash.  4-H teams will go through an interview process and model their garment at the Fashion Show.  This show is open to any member who is willing to turn trash into fashion, to create fun wearable garments from discarded material, and to recycle and repurpose “junk” into fabulous and fantastic fashion. Members are encouraged to let their imaginations go, be wildly inventive, and to “think outside of the recycle bin.”

Entry forms are due to our office on Wednesday, Mar. 2nd.  Entry forms are available on our website at http://bexar-tx.tamu.edu/4h-youth-development/contests/under the County Fashion Show tab.
