  • Don’t allow plants with green fruit or berries to suffer from lack of moisture. Hollies will frequently drop their fruit under drought conditions.
  • Continue to prune fall blooming perennials through August. Chrysanthemums, Mexican Bush Sage, Copper Canyon daisies, autumn asters and Cigar Plant (Cuphea) will benefit from a light pruning at this time. (Remove top growth of 4-6″).
  • Check moisture level of compost piles – turn if necessary. Compost piles should not be allowed to dry out.
  • Fertilize Bougainvillea and Plumeria to keep them blooming throughout the summer.
  • For a beautiful hardy heat tolerant plant that attracts both butterflies and hummingbirds, consider planting Lilac-Flowering Duranta. It loves the heat.
