February 25 2006 Timely Tips

GARDENING CALENDAR

TEXAS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

BEXAR COUNTY

FEBRUARY 25, 2006

  • This is a great time to plant Texas or Mexican Redbud trees; they make a nice, small understory ornamental tree in the landscape.
  • Clean up debris in existing flower beds, and mulch all beds with 2-4 inches of mulch.
  • Mulch will cut back on watering as well as reduce weeds.
  • Consider planting beautiful spring vines such as Carolina Jasmine or Coral Vine.
  • Start planting asparagus crowns now; look for the variety, Mary Washington.
  • If your garden space is limited, plant up large containers with flowers or vegetables.
  • If Ball Moss is becoming a nuisance in your trees, i.e. Live Oaks, spray now with Kocide and again in mid October. Repeat next year if it persists.
