GARDENING CALENDAR
TEXAS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION
BEXAR COUNTY

- Palm Sunday is tomorrow. Visit your local nursery to purchase such palms as Areca or Majesty–they are commonly used as houseplants.
- Start planting spring color now. Annual bedding plants to consider include cockscombs, begonias, ageratums, coreopsis, cosmos, marigolds, petunias, portulacas, salvias, sweet alyssums, and zinnias.
- Mix herbs into your flower garden. Try basil, chives, coriander, dill, lemon grass, parsley, mints, marjoram, rosemary, sage, thyme, etc. Herbs are fragrant and add to culinary delights.
- Easter Sunday is next week. Purchase Easter lilies this coming week. If blooms are tight, provide plenty of lighting for flowers to open up. Plant lilies in the ground, in a southeast exposure, after they finish blooming. Madonna lilies might bloom again in the fall.
- For a great flowering perennial in the shade, consider planting ‘Mona Lavender.’ It is a beautiful, hardy plant.
