If a hard freeze is predicted and the ground lacks moisture, water all fruit trees, landscape plantings, lawns and vegetable gardens, thoroughly a day or two before.

Most garden plants this summer, only needed an occasional weekly watering, compared to plants which are going into the dormant season. They will suffice with a deep watering every third or fourth week.

Refrain from pruning off freeze-damaged plant material, until mid-to-late February.

Start planting the first wave of onion bunches from now through January. Look for such names as Texas Early White, Candy Apple red and reliable yellow selections like 1015Y, Yellow Granex and the newest and sweetest of them all, Candy.
