Drought preparation is a pro-active way to make every drop of water count in our urban landscapes. Steps and guidelines may be found on the Aggie Horticulture website at http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu.

You can still plant new shrubs and trees if they are container grown. Use generous amounts of mulch on the surface over the root area, and water as the soil dries; usually about once or twice per week through the hot summer. Successes or challenges with your spring vegetable garden should correspond with keeping a journal with notes to track the history for improvements next spring or this fall.

Fertilize garden tomatoes when the first fruits set by applying one half cup of 19-5-9 slow release granulated fertilizer on the outskirts of each tomato cage every third week.
