BEXAR COUNTY BY DAVID RODRIGUEZ

The first planting of cool weather vegetable transplants like ‘Green Magic’ broccoli, ‘Snow Crown’ cauliflower, ‘Cheers’ cabbage, and ‘Vates’ collards, should be planted in a six to eight hour sunny location. A second planting is done in mid-October.

Plant healthy well established Strawberry transplants such as Chandler and Seascape. Make sure from now to the end of December, that all flowers and long shoots are pinched off. This will put energy back into the plant’s crown to produce up to one pint of fruit per plant starting in April of next year.

If you have been watering your turfgrass throughout the summer and need a quick fall green-up, supplement feed with Hi Yield Ironplus. October would be the time to “Winterize” with a 15-5-10 or 18-6-12 analysis.
