Plant shade trees now, such as Montezuma cypress, Arizona cypress, cedar elm, Chinese pistache, Lacey oak, Monterrey oak, Mexican sycamore, and bur oak to take advantage of proper root establishment from mild fall and winter weather conditions.

A properly selected, well planted, and maintained tree will afford benefits such as energy and water conservation, improved air quality and reduced water run off.

Keep your pecans watered if you want full nuts. One to two inches per week over the area covered by the crown of the tree is sufficient.

Minimize pillbug damage on newly planted vegetable transplants and on newly-germinated wildflowers with an approved bug and snail bait.

Applying a hot pepper spray weekly is an effective way of protecting plants from squirrels and deer.
