TEXAS AGRILIFE EXTENSION SERVICE

BEXAR COUNTY BY DAVID RODRIGUEZ

The first expected frost date is just around the corner. Do you have a game plan on protecting your cold sensitive plant material?

Examine tender pot plants that will be going indoors for insects. If need be, spray with an approved tender leaf insecticide.

Besides adding pansies to liven up your patio or flowerbeds, cyclamen are right up there for that wonderful splash of winter color.

Looking for that green look throughout winter? If desired, sow ‘Pantera’ or ‘Greyhound’ rye grass seed, at a rate of one pound per 100 square feet; only over seed Bermuda lawns that aren’t stressed or large bare spots.

David Rodriguez is the County Extension Agent-Horticulture with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County. For more information, call the Master Gardener “Hotline” (210) 467-6575 or visit our County Extension website at http://bexar-tx.tamu.edu.
