GARDENING CALENDAR

TEXAS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION

BEXAR COUNTY

  • Remember to fertilize your cole crops and onions on a regular basis.
  • If you have not done so, plant spinach transplants now. This is one of the most nutritious vegetables available.
  • If tomatoes are good size, but not showing any color, pick them and bring them into the house. They’ll ripen on the counter. Otherwise protect them with one of the plant blankets that is out in the market and hope they will not freeze.
  • Remove the mistletoe (which is a plant parasite) from your trees after the leaves fall. Use a blade of some type strapped to a cane pole to cut away the mistletoe from the branches
  • Consider a living Christmas tree. Italian Stone pines do well in our alkaline soils and can be moved into the landscape after use as a Christmas tree for a couple of weeks. Plant the same as any other tree.
  • Remember to put bird seed out for migrating birds.
