GARDENING CALENDAR
TEXAS COOPERATIVE EXTENSION
BEXAR COUNTY
BY DAVID RODRIGUEZ
July 28, 2007
Cut back, clean up and fertilize your Texas Gold Columbines. Never compose and plant leaves infested with disease, insects or mites.
Sow a second planting of okra for a late summer or early fall crop. Consider Emerald, Clemson Spineless or Cajun Delight.
Protect ripening Figs, Grapes, Pomegranates and other ripening fruits from bird damage with netting, inflatable snakes or owls.
Transplant Extension recommended Eggplant, Peppers and Tomatoes into prepared fall garden beds, in the evening. Keep them moist for at least two weeks.
This is a good time for pruning Live Oaks and Red Oaks. Use a tree-wound dressing if you live near sites of Oak Wilt.
Junior Master Gardener Class #2 will be starting July 30,
2007, Mon thru Sat, from 8 to 5 pm. Contact Texas Cooperative Extension
