Our Accomplishments

Between 1995 and 1999, the Council sponsored parent conferences at Leal Middle School (Harlandale ISD), Sam Houston High School, Heritage Elementary (East Central ISD), and Gus Garcia Middle School (Edgewood ISD).

In 1999, the Council went one step further by co-sponsoring (along with the City of San Antonio's Department of Community Initiatives) a conference for professionals. Over 100 attended the "Building Healthy Families for the New Millennium" at the Bright Shawl.

On April 11, 2000, the Family Alliance Council received the 2000 Governor's Volunteer Award in the group category for outstanding service to the community. In 2000, the 2nd Annual Conference for professionals, "Mi Familia Es Mi Vida" was held in partnership with the City of San Antonio and the University of Texas-downtown campus. Over 200 professionals received valuable information from 42 presenters on "best practices" in family communication, traditional and non-traditional education, childhood development, family education, health and legal issues.

On October 13, 2001, the Council returned to the community and sponsored a parent conference at Loma Park Elementary in the Edgewood ISD. Approximately 250-300 parents attended the "Family Life, Health, and Safety Conference." Parents received valuable information on how to keep their home, school and community safe.

On October 18, 2002 the Council sponsored a conference for professionals entitled "Community Leadership for the Future" held at Our Lady of the Lake University. Over 130 people attended a variety of sessions showcasing leadership programs in the San Antonio area. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about local resources and programs which has led to expanded networking and collaboration in the community.

Every July - The Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon is our way to thank those who have assisted the Council by volunteering their time at the conference. It is also the members way to "thank the boss" for allowing time away from their offices to work toward the mission of the Council.

On October 22, 2004, the Family Alliance Council sponsored a leadership conference for professionals, "Building Strong Families in Difficult Times-Bridging the Gap," at St. Mary's University. The event featured over 20 knowledgeable speakers covering a variety of topics that are appropriate to today's timely needs.
