The 4-H Public Speaking & Performance Project Contest is held in mid
April.
One of the best assets youth gain from their 4-H experience is the ability to speak before an audience. Our members practice this skill while giving reports, running meetings, teaching peers, and in our formal 4-H Public Speaking & Performance Contest that is also called Roundup.
Many clubs take on Public Speaking as a formal group project. There are resources to help teach this through fun exercises. We are also lucky to have community volunteer organizations like the Toastmasters that will help mentor our 4-H members as they hone their speaking skills. The 4-H Public Speaking Teaching Guides are available from the links below. The links below also have more details on the actual contest.
If you would like to try this project, start by reviewing the categories you can enter under. Decide
if you would like to work with a partner or alone. Review the teaching resources and consider
attending the basic Public Speaking Training that we will offer in March (watch the newsletter
for date/time). For those members who would like to showcase their musical, dance, comedy,
poetry or other performance skills there is the "Share the Fun" contest held on the same evening.
