Prairie View

The 4-H & Youth Development Program is part of the Cooperative Extension Program at Prairie View A&M University. The Cooperative Extension Program at Prairie View A&M University is the primary educational outreach arm of the university that disseminates research-based knowledge to benefit primarily limited resource audiences in rural and urban Texas. It is a part of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M. Since 1972, the program has provided educational assistance to youth, small farms producers, families, and communities in 34 Texas counties in the areas of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community Economic Development, and 4-H & Youth Development. CEP utilizes county based Extension Agents and para-professionals and headquarter subject matter specialists to conduct educational programs. Cooperative Extension's 4-H & Youth Development Program in Bexar County is committed to working with youth to assist them in becoming productive citizens and leaders in their communities and to alleviate risk factors facing them.

Bexar County 4-H programs are the mainstay of this effort and is supported by a 4-H Advisory Board made up of youths and adults. Youths also participate in special interest projects, 4-H clubs, and 4-H school enrichment programs. Young people are involved in community service, and leadership and receive information on career development, entrepreneurship, job skills, communication, self-esteem, life skills, public speaking, and consumerism.
